quotes Nice move WA state. While other communities chase grants, hold fundraisers and look forward to many years of hard work to have a destination-worthy trail system, you just destroyed a $2million gift from the mountain biking community. All you had to do was find a way to manage what existed and manage the risk going forward. Government at its best. Idiots.

quotes Great pictures. Pointless article. All I can say is, Guys, when its time to buy new bikes for yourself and your lady, put some thought into it. As a bike shop owner, seeing a couple come in - the guy buys a $2500 full suspension, the lady gets a $600 hardtail. They're planning to try riding together. If she really likes it, maybe she'll get a new bike in a couple years. Worst strategy ever. Get 2 equal valued bikes. Give your lady a chance to experience the same ride you're enjoying on the same quality bike. Quit forcing clipless pedals on ladies who don't want them. Go enjoy some time on your bikes. As for this article. Some women love riding. Some women don't. Same goes for men. We all have different motives for getting out and riding.

quotes I've always assumed guys ride for whoever pays the most - not the brand they want to ride. I think it is short-sighted for a brand to think sponsoring a high-profile rider for a year will put them on the map. It seems like people only start paying attention to the brand a rider is on once it becomes a longer term deal and people start thinking of the rider and the brand together.

quotes Thanks Jay and the rest of the Hoots Crew. You not only put in a skills park and trails, you did an awesome job of it, got the local kids excited and involved and brought your brand of positive vibes to Crowsnest Pass. AWESOME.

quotes When BMX went to ultra small drivetrain I noticed way more broken chains. Smaller gears means higher tension in the chain. Smaller gears means faster wearing. Shimano's Dynasys 10 speed theory talks about having a bigger granny ring partially to reduce tension on the chain. For all this stuff there will be trade-offs. If you want a really broad range of gears go 3x10 or 3x9 - no real difference in my mind. If you're strong and never use the ultra-low gears go 2x10.nobody's riding experience will be that much better or worse no matter how they go.

quotes Here's what I think happened: 2008/2009: a bunch of bike manufacturers spec'd RF on their bikes (bars, seatposts, cranks, stems). Sales were (just for example - no clue what sales were) $25Million. At that point running the business would have cost $5M, profit of $2M, the rest would have been cost of goods and variable costs. 2010: for whatever reason, bike companies did way more Shimano cranks and in house bars and posts. Sales fall to $15M. Profit turns into $2M loss because the productions, staffing, marketing are all planned for a company doing $25M in sales. Bank looks at factors and pulls their financing. Just my guess reading between the lines. Probably the reason they shot themselves in the foot and sold product to MEC - a last-ditch effort to get some cash flow that back-fired and devalued the brand in Canada. I realize Canada was a relatively small market for Canada, but RF may have made similar emergency moves in other markets. I feel for the RF employees. From my dealings with them they were some of the best guys in the industry.

quotes Great article about a great bike. I have owned a Quake, Wolfridge and the Attack Trail 6.8 and continue to be impressed with Quad Link Suspension. I'm glad to see someone actually ride the bike then review it. I have seen some total BS reviews in magazines about this bike which I can only assume is a result of Marin not buying tons of advertising space. Magazine tests are nothing more than "advertorials" funded by advertising dollars.

quotes Classic Tippie. Random stuff that would have been boring with anyone else and I'm smiling by the time the section is done.

quotes I am amazed DW isn't making a fuss. That Opus Nelson's linkage looks pretty DW-ish and Maestro-ish - either way amazing there aren't legal issues. Looks pretty amazing!

Hey Graham my real name is J I work for Hardcorebikes in Edmonton. We are the smallest shop in town with only 3 full time in season including our owner. Hardcore is sort of a racing club funded by the retail outlet. We have the rep in town as the high end hard gear technical shop we do a lot more Labour on freeride and dh bikes than we sell. How do we tell the people about the Marins ? The bikes are getting a stellar reputaiton in the industry with core riders but they are off the Radar in the Freeride scene. I dont think most young riders know who Shaums March is. Its strange that in the bike industry hype often sells over real performance. Case in point Kona , Specialized. Its sad but true Marin needs to find a young hotshot punk to put on the Quakes. My letting a coulple of our shop rats try my baby (her name is Musqua means bear in Cree) at the local ski hill has sold a couple of Quakes for us. We are going to put up the Hardcore tent more at the hill this year and Demo the Marins. We have been talking to the rep about doing a promo with March I think we are going to give away one of his camps this year. So your getting a wolf ridge nice, we just got Ibis so the Mojo and the Mt vision are fighting for a place in my stable. The Ibis offer incredible value My cost as a shop guy is well under two grand for a complete xt kit Mavic wheelset upper crust fox front and rear. I have never been one for the look of Carbon frames but man the mojo is sexy, kinda Alien/victoria secret thing only a bike geek could understand. Hey thanks for the Conversation we will have to rip it up at cop this season ever get out to baseline mountain? its quadlink heaven.
